We are an interdisciplinary research group in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering (CBE) at UC Berkeley. Our mission is to understand the genomic and physicochemical underpinnings of neuronal diversity and function. We wish to understand how diverse neuronal types arise during developmental and evolutionary time scales. To achieve this goal, we leverage experimental techniques of single-cell genomics to generate large datasets, and develop computational approaches rooted in statistical inference to translate data in biological insights. More recently, we have also become interested in modeling basic aspects of neuronal physiology from an electrochemical perspective.
